Key elements included the design and fabrication of a bespoke enclosure engineered to mate with the existing filter frame, roof-mounted LED battens and cardboard extract filter media to capture overspray before air is extracted to atmosphere.

Facility Overview

Unitech Machinery was commissioned by Stormking to design and fabricate a new single skin open booth, integrating with their existing rear extraction plenum, frame, and fan. By engineering the new enclosure to mate directly with the client’s existing infrastructure, Unitech delivered a cost-effective solution that avoided unnecessary capital expenditure on new extraction equipment.

Enclosure Design & Fabrication

The enclosure was fabricated to precise dimensions of 5m x 4m. Rather than specifying a full replacement system, the project brief called for a purpose-built structure that would work in tandem with the client’s current plenum, frame, and fan arrangement – a practical approach that delivered the required functionality without unnecessary cost.

Lighting

Roof panels were fitted with LED battens mounted behind sealed glass panels, providing effective and maintenance-friendly illumination across the entire working area whilst protecting the lighting units from overspray contamination during the gel coat application process.

Filtration & Airflow

The enclosure functions as a containment booth during the final gel coat application process, with rear cardboard extract filter media capturing overspray before any extracted air is discharged to atmosphere. The extraction arrangement is designed to encourage positive airflow from the shop floor past the operative during spraying, promoting a safe and comfortable working environment throughout the finishing operation.
